OVERVIEW
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
“Zoo Lovers” use the zoo animals as a vehicle and for content to create a type specimen promotion for a typeface.
PROJECT PURPOSE
The project goal is to show off the typeface’s great qualities, inspiring other designers to use it through designing the Specimen Book in a deck of cards. It will evaluate the typeface’s standard sizes, weights, texture, legibility, readability, and how it works in headlines and paragraphs.
TYPE STUDY
Avenir Next (primary)

Adrian Frutiger designed Avenir in 1988, released by a company that is now a branch of the Monotype Corporation, Linotype GmbH. In 1988, the original version of Avenir only had three weights. Later on, after it became more popular, three more weights were introduced, making it the six weight typeface we love today. It was brought to modern times in 2004 when Frutiger, along with type designer Akira Kobayashi, reworked the entire font to fix digital display problems; they called it Avenir Next. Total, the type family of Avenir Next had 24 fonts.

Sabon is an old-style serif typeface designed by the German-born typographer and designer Jan Tschichold (1902–1974) in 1964–1967. It was released jointly by the Linotype, Monotype, and Stempel type foundries in 1967.
THEME & INSPIRATION
The theme was inspired by my four-year-old nephew. Like most children, they are very interested in animals when they were young. Therefore, “Zoo Lovers” will use the zoo animals as a vehicle and for content to create a type specimen promotion for a typeface. By introducing children to the zoo animals while showing off the typeface's great qualities (that can apply in any situation) inspiring other designers to use it through designing the Specimen Book in a deck of cards.
